Shanghai Film Festival: A celebration of cinema

There are not many film festivals that can be said to show as many pieces as the Shanghai Film Festival, taking place in June.

Since being founded in 1993, the festival has quickly emerged as one of the foremost of its kind.

The festival is made up of four strands, the Jin Jue Award International Film Competition, the International Film Panorama, the International Film Market and the Jin Jue International Film Forum.

More than 900 films from 60 countries around the globe will be shown during the event, which has earned itself Grade-A international status.

Visitors to the festival however should not forget that Shanghai itself provides many diversions and attractions.

As one of the largest and most vibrant cities on earth, Shanghai is a treat for the senses.

Few cities can compete with Shanghai for nightlife, as it boasts a plethora of brightly lit bars, clubs and restaurants.

Situated on the picturesque banks of the majestic Yangtze River, Shanghai is truly testament to China's rapid growth and development, both culturally and economically, in the last couple decades.
