Run with the bulls in Denia
June 26 2007
While Pamplona may be the best-known place to run with the bulls, Denia, in Valencia, holds its own bull running festival with a unique twist.
The Toros/Bous a la Mer festival features a running of the bulls down the town's historic harbour front, where the only way to avoid getting trampled is to dive into the ocean.
Held from July 7th to the 15th, in order to celebrate Day of the Sacred Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the festival is always a loud and chaotic affair.
Included in the fun are processions, carriage parades, concerts and some spectacular fireworks shows.
Set on the beautiful Costa Blanca, Denia is an idyllic, small coastal town, a perfect location to get away from it all.
The town is dominated by its ancient fort, first built by the moors and then added to by the French, who occupied it during the War of the Spanish Succession.
