Expert: Brits seek summer sun

Britons are rushing to escape the miserable UK weather and head to sunnier climes, one expert has claimed.

Holiday bookings have surged according Vicky Sanders, the sales director of Teletext Holidays. Speaking to the Guardian, she states: "People have had enough of the weather and holiday prices are cheap. There are some absolute killer deals out there."

She continues that Monday is the most popular day to search for holidays, with Greece overtaking Egypt as the most population destination, due to the current heatwave the country is experiencing.

Teletext recorded 106,000 website hits on Monday, the busiest day of the year so far for the company.

A spokesman for the Met Office said the summer sun will not arrive in Britain in July and it is too soon to tell what August will bring.

He stated: "The weather is not going to change much from now until the end of July."
