Croatian crustacean collection
August 28 2007
Croatia is fast becoming one of Europe's hottest new destinations and boasts a number of cultural attractions which should supply lucky tourists with mouth-watering art exhibitions and cultural interest.
September is the last chance for those looking for more unusual sights in the region to visit the basement of a Franciscan Monastery in Makarsa.
In this unlikely venue there is a Malacological museum, housing a collection of shells, snails and mussels and it is thought to be one of the largest compilations of such artefacts in the world.
Holidaymakers can take a break from picking up pretty shells on the countries raved about beaches to sample some of the delights of a collection that has been on display for 40 years and possesses fossils from around the world.
Makarsa is on the Adriatic coastline of the country and has a beach and harbour and provides cafes, boutiques and bars for tourists to enjoy.
