Those who fancy adding some extra entertainment while soaking up the rays will be able to do just that on Gran Canaria in January and February.

Running for the three weeks prior to the start of lent, the period involves a series of carnival events around Las Palmas, with the Drag Queen Gala being one of the highlights.

This particular parade takes place on February 1st 2008, according to festival organisers, while other events include the Gala Queen parade on January 25th.

With so many costumes, so much colour and a huge amount of general merriment, any trip to the islands is likely to be brightened up even more than it already is.

Visitors should be certain to have a good time in any event, with the sunshine, beaches, warm water and nightlife providing an enjoyable contrast to the dark and cold days of winter back home.
