Carnival crazy in Cruz

For those who haven't had enough partying over Christmas and certainly fancy some sunshine to brighten up the winter, a trip to Tenerife could be just the thing.

Quite apart from warming the fingers and toes, the rest of the body should soon be in dancing and singing mode as the island's capital Santa Cruz goes carnival crazy.

Lasting from January 14th to February 10th, the carnival season has a range of events to delight and amuse, with plenty of colour, costume and puppets.

The programme includes a huge cross-dressing event in which, in true pantomime style, absolutely everybody is dressed as the opposite sex.

All this fun and frolicking can be combined with relaxing in some fine sunny weather, leaving behind Britain with its cold wind, rain and occasional snow and instead enjoying the beach and catching a few rays.
