Bulgaria has been named in a top five list of preferred holiday destinations for German holidaymakers.

The study by German magazine Urlaub Perfekt revealed that Bulgaria was the nation's fifth favourite holiday destination, Dnevnik News reports.

Bulgaria won a total 255 votes out of a possible 1,200 tourists behind leader Spain with 910 votes, while Turkey, Greece and Egypt also made up the top five.

According to German tourists, Bulgaria was named as a "good" family holiday destination.

Additionally, the country was reported to offer "affordable" holiday opportunities.

Meanwhile, Spain, which was voted number one, was voted best seaside holiday destination.

The study also revealed that there is a continuing increase in the number of German tourists booking holidays to Bulgaria.
