Carnival time in Cyprus
January 31 2008
Those travelling to Cyprus next month should make their way to Limassol where the region's annual spring carnival is taking place.
Dating back to the Dionysiac celebrations of centuries ago, the Limassol Carnival contains many aspects of and reference to Greek mythology.
From February 28th until March 9th 2008 celebrations will take over the popular holiday destination culminating in the Grand Carnival Parade on March 9th and also featuring a children's parade on the 2nd.
Those with an anthropological mind should pay a visit to the Lemesos castle which dates back to Medieval times and was the place in which Richard the Lionheart and Berengaria of Navarre married during the Middle Ages.
Expect parades, music, dancing and much partying as locals and holidaymakers alike come together for the Limassol Carnival in Cyprus for a whole seven days and nights this February.
