Travel guides 'can improve holidays'
May 2 2008
Using a good quality travel guide can add layers to - and improve - your holiday, it has been reported.
According to Footprint, a publisher of travel guides, a travel guide can improve your holiday by directing your attention towards points of interest and can inspire you towards "adventures".
Managing director Andy Riddle added that a well written guide produced by a "dedicated" author can ensure that no opportunities and experiences are missed while on holidays.
"I would not say that guide books should be followed slavishly. A good guide book is a great starting point for getting to understand a country and the choices you have when on the road," he concluded.
A travel guide market research report, Who buys travel guides?, developed a profile of UK travel guide buyers and was published in April 2006.
It revealed that those most likely to buy a travel guide are Londoners between the ages of 25 and 34 with a professional job and hectic lifestyle. Those least likely to buy travel guides are over-65 year old working-class Scots.
