Culture 'plays important role' on luxury holidays

The "genuine" factor is playing an increasingly important part in people's holidays, it has been reported.

According to Luxury Travel magazine, families are looking for a more authentic experience on their holidays

Alyson Cook, editor of Luxury Travel Magazine, said that travellers are looking for more "than just sea and sand" and are seeking something to show from their holiday that they can tell their friends about upon their return

"With families they don't want the children to lie on a beach, they actually want them to learn and get involved and have an authentic experience," she commented.

Ms Cook added that such experiences could include rescuing turtles on Greek islands or building huts in Africa and India.

She also predicted that "adventure" and "experience" would play an increasingly important role in so-called cultural tourism.
