Situated just 12km north-west of provincial capital Faro, the fashionable town of Almancil is the closest resort to the luxury developments of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. While not coastal itself, the resort offers access to everything you could want from a beach holiday to the Algarve.

Culture vultures will appreciate the stunning eighteenth century church just 2km out of town at Sao Lourenco with its blazing-blue tiled walls. This is one of many historical sites to be enjoyed in the region from the crumbling medieval walls and ancient buildings of Faro, to the old town at Albufeira with its paved squares lined with traditional cafes and restaurants.
