Armacao De Pera is one of the Algarve’s finest beach resorts and an idyllic setting for a family holiday to Portugal. Sitting between Albufeira and Praia de Rocha on the south-coast, the 3km stretch of golden sand slopes gently into clear waters. The natural outcrops of sandstone cliff provide excellent conditions for snorkelling and sheltered swimming for children.
An old fishing village, the resort name originates from the nets used to haul in catches of tuna and sardines from the surrounding waters. You can still see fisherman bringing in the local catch of the day. The plentiful seafood can be enjoyed at fantastic restaurants on the coast and inland. After the sun has set you can find a modest selection of lively bars and discos in town but if you want to party into the early hours you are best off heading to Praia de Rocha where there are night spots to cater for every taste and budget.
Culture vultures can enjoy historic sites close to home in the Armacao old town with its enchanting chapel and remains of an eighteenth century fortification that used to guard the town. There is something for everyone to enjoy on a cheap holiday to the Algarve.
