Altea : Holiday Accommodation
Just 15km north of Benidorm, this picture-postcard, old hill-top town with a pretty waterfront, makes a holiday to Altea a delight. Formerly a fishing village, it retains a great deal of character. Tranquil and charming, the resort fringes a beautiful bay and is divided into two parts, the seafront, with its marina and harbour, and the original village, reached by steep steps from the promenade. Up there you will discover crooked, cobbled lanes lined with whitewashed houses, little shops, artist galleries and tapas bar-lined plazas, while below, the waterfront is crammed with friendly cafes, souvenir shops and restaurants to stroll around. Altea is home to many artists and local craftsmen, and the famous church of Nuestra Senora del Consuelo, with its sparkling blue dome, gives the place a magical feel. There is a much more Spanish atmosphere to Altea than many other towns on the coast.
Like towns all over Spain, Altea explodes when it holds one of its many annual fiestas, with parades and activities galore throughout the year. And with the more hedonistic delights of Benidorm only a train ride away, and Denia or Alicante close by, a cheap holiday to Altea really does have everything you need.
