Located on the northern coast of Koh Samui, Bo Phut still retains traces of the lives of its original inhabitants, a group of Malay Chinese fishermen, who settled centuries ago. Though development is going on around the town, at the heart of Bo Phut remains the traditional Fisherman’s Village, where ancient Chinese trading houses line the narrow streets. Many of them have now been converted to smart restaurants and chic designer shops. Here the streets buzz with life, particularly on Fridays, when they are filled with people dining out at the numerous food and drinks stalls, eating established, favourites like Pad Thai and satay dishes, and trying local delicacies like silk worms and crickets. The town sits on two kilometres of white, fine sandy beach where loungers, bungalows and bars abound.

Much of the activities available at Bo Phut centre on the beach. At the western end of the beach are several jet-ski hire operators and a go-kart track is just outside the village so kids on the family holiday can have their shot of excitement if playing on the beach with the parents gets too tame. With a reputation for being one of the best places to eat on Koh Samui, it boasts restaurants covering all kinds of international cuisines from Italian to Indian as well as some of the best Thai restaurants around, and every bar is family-friendly and suitable for all ages.
