Chaweng Beach is the longest beach on Koh Samui’s east coast and the most popular on the island. Over the last twenty years, Chaweng has transformed from a near deserted tropical bay to a vital, lively and cosmopolitan resort. With seven kilometres of fine, white sand, gently lapped by crystal clear emerald blue waters along with water sports, clubs, bars and stylish shops, this is the holiday centre of Koh Samui. There’s a coral reef just offshore that makes the waters calmer, as well as two small islands, one of which can be reached by walking through the shallow waters.

The main road runs parallel to the beach, and it is lined with hotels and resorts. The northern and southern ends of the beach are calmer and suited for family holiday accommodation while the central area is full of nightclubs and bars and budget hotels suited for the cheap holiday younger crowd. During the day the Beach Road seems deserted as all the holidaymakers head for the beach but as evening draws in the whole area comes alive. The shops open and the sound of dance tunes and local music start to pour out of the bars and restaurants. The hustle and bustle of the town soon picks up as shoppers and holidaymakers share space strolling through the lights and enjoying the smells coming from the inviting food stalls that are everywhere.
