Although Lamai Beach’s tourist facilities may not be as modern as they are in neighbouring Chaweng, the resort is gradually being refurbished. Along with the rest of Koh Samui, there is a steady trend away from the 'cheap and cheerful' towards smarter, more high-end accommodation and dining facilities. Samui’s second largest resort after Chaweng, Lamai Beach is located in the busy area of the island, so with a holiday to Lamai Beach, there is plenty of choice when it comes to accommodation, dining and shopping. But despite this, Lamai Beach is quieter and less bustling than its neighbour, and it benefits from having a more laid-back atmosphere.
