MAJORCA VILLA HOLIDAYS - LIFESTYLE

Resort Guides

Shopping

Most resorts and towns in Majorca have souvenir shops, local craft shops and shops for essentials. Many towns also have wonderful markets where you can sample and buy local goods. But make sure you check the days: Alcudia Old Town, Santa Maria, Pollensa and Felantix markets are held on a Sunday. Inca market and Arenal market are held on a Thursday, and Andraitx on a Wednesday. Palma is also a great place for shopping with its market day on a Saturday. Here you can pick up good buys such as pottery and ceramics, olive wood, glassware, lace, raffia, leather and Majorcan pearls. Won't your friends and family back home just love you!

Cuisine

Majorca wouldn't be Majorca without a Paella, the fish and chicken rice dish famous throughout Spain. Other Majorcan specialities include Ensaimada, a sugar dusted bun; local Grimalt cheese; Pa' amb Oli - bread with garlic; Sobrasada, which is a cured sausage; Lechona, a roast pig. You'll find all, or at least, some of these dishes at the excellent variety of cafes, bars, take-aways and restaurants throughout Majorca.

Cuisine

The majority tend to be steered towards international food but local cuisine can still be tasted at smaller restaurants found in the inland villages.

Night-life

Night-life depends upon which resort you choose and can vary greatly. Southern resorts tend to be more lively, with a wide selection of bars and clubs. Magaluf is a particularly lively, if not infamous, night spot with plenty of cafes, cocktail bars, clubs and discos. Northern resorts are quieter in comparison and the main night-life is centred around bars and restaurants. Alcudia is also lively with plenty of entertainment for all ages.
