Resort Guides

Shopping

You can find shops in most resorts selling souvenirs and essentials. Enthusiastic shoppers will enjoy Biosphere Plaza in Puerto del Carmen Old Town and the New Town. There are markets on Fridays in the Jabillo area, at night in Costa Teguise and three times a week in Playa Blanca, while souvenir hunters will be in their element at Marina Rubicon. When you're browsing, look out for Olivina (a semi-precious stone), leather, jewellery, electrical goods, local produce and El Golfo crystal.

Cuisine

While you're in Lanzarote try Sangria, 'Mojo Picon' (a Canarian sauce), Canarian potatoes, 'Vieja' (a fish dish), 'Sanocho Canario' (a fish salad with a hot sauce), 'Rum-Miec' (a local rum with honey), 'Ronmiel' (a local drink), 'Arehucas' (a local rum), La Geria wine, 'Pescado al Plancha' (a white fish), and a range of fresh fish and seafood specialities. There are numerous excellent and good-value restaurants, bars and cafes in all resorts serving international cuisine and a tempting selection of local dishes.

Night-life

Puerto del Carmen offers a main seafront strip with cocktail bars, a central commercial centre with bars, various evening shows, Rancho Texas western night and a casino in the central area. In Costa Teguise most of the entertainment can be found within the hotel complexes, although there is a selection of bars and restaurants. The resort of Playa Blanca also has a small choice of discos, live music, karaoke and bars.
