If you fancy lazy days on one of the Algarve’s finest coastlines, São Rafael’s your place. Near to the bustling resort of Albufeira, this relaxed laid-back area boasts a terrific, long sandy beach framed by sheltering, sandstone cliffs. Here, the spacious sands provide plentiful room for everyone and slip gradually into calm, iridescent waters perfect for paddling and swimming. You’ll find a few watersports sprinkled around and some good windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing and scuba-diving. When you fancy a break, there’s a small selection of touristy shops and bars and restaurants near the beach, the latter providing pleasant venues for whiling away the balmy evenings. For livelier times, head for neighbouring Albufeira’s animated bars, shops and discos, or play some of the many magnificent local golf courses.
