On arrival in New Orleans you will be met by your representative and transferred to your hotel for one night. The evening is free for you to relax or explore the city. The hotel hospitality desk is open from 1pm to 8pm if you need information or sightseeing suggestions.
After breakfast, head to the Voyage Check-In area where a representative will arrange your transfers to the vessel later that day. Use the remainder of your time in New Orleans to explore. You may want to join the premium morning city tour, or perhaps you want to discover the city at your own pace. Embankment onto American Duchess begins at 3:30pm.
Today, take a step back to 18th Century America at the Nottoway Plantation, the south’s largest remaining sugar cane estate. Nicknamed the ‘The White Castle of Louisiana’, this grand plantation sits in a great location along the great River Road, overlooking the grand Mississippi River. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the grounds, including the ‘White Ballroom’ and its beautiful landscaped gardens.
Get a taste for Louisiana’s southern charm in the small town of St. Francisville. You will be dropped off at Royal Street in the heart of the Historic District, a great place to stroll and admire the 19th century architecture. Take a look inside Grandmother Buttons, a unique boutique that offers jewellery made out of 100 year-old buttons, or visit the former magistrate’s office, Market Hall. Perhaps you would like to sample the local art at the Harrington Gallery or just relax and watch the day go by at a quaint cafe. The day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Arrive in Natchez, the oldest city on the Mississippi River, and enjoy a day of guided sightseeing. Your shore excursions include a number of grand 19th century mansions, including Rosalie Stanton Hall and Magnolia Hall. You also explore the city’s poignant history with visits to the Natchez Association for the Preservation of Afro-American Culture Museum, and the William Johnson House Museum, which features diary excerpts from a former freed slave.
Today your journey along the Mississippi River takes you to Vicksburg, a southern town with plenty of history. Described as the "Key to the South" by Abraham Lincoln, this Civil War city is home to a number of museums, including the Old Court House Museum, Anchuca Mansion, the Old Depot Museum and the Lower Mississippi River Museum. As Vicksburg is the town where Coca-Cola was first bottled, the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum is also a popular stop for visitors.
Located a short drive from the birthplace of B.B. King and many other blues singers, Greenville is a city with an artistic soul. The city is famous for being home to a number of renowned authors and writers, including the author of the Muppets. Learn more about its most famous citizens at the Greenville History Museum and explore the greatest natural disaster to have touched the city at the 1927 Flood Museum. Other attractions you can see today include the Hebrew Union Congregation Temple and Museum, E.E Bass Cultural Arts Center, Percy Library and Washington County Courthouse.
There is always plenty to do between dawn and dusk on the river and today is the perfect day to enjoy the many public spaces and activities that are available to you onboard. Gaze at the beautiful landscapes and small river towns as you mingle with fellow guests and discuss the unique aspects of river life. Disembark in Memphis and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK or extend your stay in the city.
