Day 1

UK - Lyon

Travel to Lyon and transfer to the MS Camargue for embarkation.

Day 2

Lyon - Mâcon

After breakfast, take the day at leisure or join an optional guided tour of Lyon, France's delicious gastronomic capital, positioned on the Rhône and Saône rivers, with a UNESCO-listed medieval centre and impressive Roman ruins. Lyon's charm lies in its colourful riverfront buildings and impressive 2,000 years of history reflected in its centre. Discover medieval and renaissance architecture, take advantage of the superb shopping opportunities and sample some of the adventurous food that the city has to offer. After lunch, set sail for Mâcon and admire views of the charming Burgundy countryside. This evening, enjoy entertainment and dancing after dinner on board your ship.

Day 3

Mâcon - Vienne

Today, enjoy an optional excursion to the famous Abbey of Cluny. The Benedictine Abbey was the nerve-centre of monastic reform in the Middle Ages and was the world's largest until St Peter's Basilica was rebuilt in Rome in the 16th-century. Although most of the Abbey stands in ruins, you still get a great sense of the size and glory of the Abbey. After lunch back on board, cruise towards Vienne.

Day 4

Vienne - Arles

Overlooking the Rhône, the town of Vienne was once Rome's major wine port. With visible Gallo-Roman heritage and spectacular Roman ruins, this divine riverfront city is full of photo opportunities. This morning, enjoy free time to explore the Roman monuments and medieval churches or join the optional tour, to see the Romanesque Cathedral of St Maurice. This afternoon, take the opportunity to relax on board as you cruise along the Rhône towards Arles and continue the journey through the night.

Day 5

Arles - The Camargue

After breakfast, explore Arles on an optional tour. This stunning town has a spectacular Roman arena and is know to have inspired the painter, Van Gogh, with its enchanting light. Stroll the winding streets and see the 20,000-seater Les Arenes stadium which once hosted chariot and gladiator contests. From here, head into the Provençal countryside to learn how the region's prized olive oil is produced. This afternoon, perhaps join an optional excursion into the Camargue, the river delta of the Rhône. This nature reserve is host to the famous Camargue ponies and an incredible array of birdlife. Enjoy free time in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. After dinner on board, there is a colourful Provençal folklore show.

Day 6

Arles - Avignon - Viviers

Set sail early this morning towards Avignon. A stunning medieval town once the home of Popes, Avignon is famed for its arched bridge immortalised in the well-known song. An optional sightseeing tour takes in the mighty City of Popes citadel, whose court once attracted Europe's artists and intellectuals, and the famous bridge, standing in its shadow. After lunch cruise towards Viviers, built on a hillside, the quaint town is a jumble of cobbled lanes and stone houses built around a 12th-century cathedral. Enjoy an optional tour exploring the maze-like streets and the views over the river.

Day 7

Tournon - Lyon

Today, arrive in the attractive village of Tournon, with its castle, monuments and spectacular views. Perhaps join an optional city tour before a tasting of local wine and regional delicacies. Later, return to your ship for a gala dinner.

Day 8

Lyon - UK

After breakfast, disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your return to the UK, or extend your stay in Lyon with a two-night stay at the Hotel Globe et Cecil.
