Excellent stay in fascinating Vancouver followed by a great cruise to Alaska. Holland America were great
Total meals included:
Travel to Vancouver and transfer to your hotel for a 3 night stay. Our local rep will help you make the most of your stay in Vancouver.
You have 2-full days to explore Canada's 'Gem of the Pacific', spectacularly set on the Burrard Inlet. It's one of the country's most beautiful cities with plenty of sightseeing opportunities including Gastown, Chinatown and Stanley Park. Amongst an impressively creative culture, friendly neighbourhoods and a satisfying array of drink-and-dine delights, the sunset beaches, unfurling ocean and mountain diorama sets the scene in this iconic city.
Spend the morning at leisure before you transfer to the port to embark the MS Volendam for your once-in-a-lifetime Alaska cruise.
Soak up the incredible beauty of the Inside Passage. Cruise past thousands of miles of epic scenery, towering glaciated mountains, roaring waterfalls, endless islands and virgin forests. There are plenty of animals and marine life to look out for including sea lions, eagles and porpoises.
Alaska's capital, Juneau, is only accessible by seaplane or boat and has a Gold Rush story to rival that of Klondike. Choose between joining an optional wildlife cruise, a salmon fishing trip or an excursion to the Mendenhall Glacier. Juneau is arguably the most scenically pleasing capital of the nation. Walk the maze of narrow streets and slanted houses, moulded within a network of staircases within the city centre. Soak up the bustling atmosphere along the waterfront with cruises ships, fishing boats and floatplanes continuously buzzing in and out. And finally, view the Juneau Ice Field which covers the Coastal range, with glaciers that tumble down between the mountainsides, a quaint frame to the charming city.
Arrive in Skagway, one of the driest places in the Southeast and a gateway to Alaska's Klondike Gold Rush of Canada's Yukon. Skagway still has old-fashioned, weathered boardwalks and old-time saloons. Explore the trails and historic railways or take advantage of the excellent dining options. Skagway is a truly spectacular place to arrive in by sea, and you'll find many people dressed as they would in the former gold-rush days. It’s a strange city, a city of conflicts and contrasts, bordering a waterway that never freezes. It's most surreal feature is that its roads lead to nowhere making it the most geographically secluded state capital in the country. Optional sightseeing includes a ride in a vintage parlour car to see the White Pass and Yukon route. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore, before setting sail again later in the evening.
Cruise into spectacular Glacier Bay where 16 huge mountains converge to create a dramatic scene of awesome glaciers and massive icebergs. You’ll see an abundance of wildlife in Glacier Bay, including whales, eagles, seals, porpoises, sea otters, mountain goats, moose and bears. The humpbacks whales are most impressive and if you’re lucky you will see them heave their massive bodies out of the water into spectacular leaps, a move called ‘breaching’.
Situated on Revillagigedo Island is the colourful Ketchikan, known as the salmon capital of the world. Ketchikan is backed by forested hills facing a picturesque waterway with fishing boats, floatplanes and ferries, and is abundant with bars and charismatic totem poles. Ketchikan is charmingly small at just a few miles long and only a few blocks wide and it located just 90-miles north of Prince Rupert. Optional excursions include Indian Heritage Villages, Totem Bight State Park and 'flightseeing' to Misty Fjords National Monument.
Continue your cruise down the impressive Inside Passage.
