A medley of historical treasures

Sandwiched in-between Serbia and Greece on the Balkan Peninsula, Macedonia offers all the usual European charms, minus the heavy crowds. A series of kingdoms have come and left their mark over the years, resulting in a collage of architectural styles and influences. Scatterings of Roman ruins can be found throughout the country, while the hand of the Ottomans can be felt in the capital with its old Turkish bazaar and 15th century Kameni Most stone bridge. Outside the city, Macedonia’s rugged mountain landscape offers excellent opportunities for hiking and adventure.
