Enjoy the beautifully historic city of Dresden on an included sightseeing tour. Here you can marvel at the many architectural gems that are found here, from the powerful Baroque Church of Our Lady, an amazing religious building that is definitely a must see, to the Dresden Zwinger and the Royal Palace. This afternoon we visit the Meissen Porcelain Workshop, a lovely journey through the 300 year old history of all the various designs and products that have come out of this pretty German town, often called the 'Cradle of Saxony'.
Today enjoy an included day trip to uncover some of the gems of the neighbouring "Land of Thuringia". First on the list is Erfurt, giving you chance to see the fascinating cathedral in the heart of the city with the Domplatz just on its doorstep, where you can stroll around the large square with its many restaurants and shops. Have a look at the picturesque Merchant's Bridge, a brilliant crossing full of shops and pretty timber houses which strikes a resemblance with the Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence. We then visit Weimar, an important cultural town that for years, hosted writers such as Goethe and Schiller and is also known as the founding place of the first German Republic after the fall of the Prussian Empire. Why not take the opportunity to visit Buchenwald concentration camp on an optional excursion?
Today is yours to explore Dresden at will with a day at leisure. Why not join an optional excursion to Colditz castle and enjoy a guided tour? Or visit one of the very first protestant churches.
Today you will discover the wonderful city of Leipzig, where you will have the chance to see the many magnificent and historic sights, from the beautifully impressive buildings such as St Nicholas Church and St Thomas where JS Bach used to hold his concerts, as well as the combination of Baroque and Art Nouveau style buildings. Leipzig also has a selection of art galleries and museums giving you the opportunity to discover in more detail the history of both Leipzig and Germany. Last but not least, you will enjoy a visit to the Porsche factory, a journey through the history of this world famous automobile giant.
Today we bid farewell to Dresden and head to Berlin, but not before a stop in Potsdam where you can see the stunning Sanssouci Palace and the gardens (Sanssouci roughly means "without a care"). The building itself is a Rococo building and has been given UNESCO World Heritage Site status. It is a treasure trove of precious design, from the white and gold Marble Hall which is based on the Pantheon in Rome, to the spectacular paintings. The gardens surrounding the palace are just as beautiful and were built for the King of Prussia to spend time relaxing and listening to music in the serene environment, hence the name "Sanssouci". Next, enjoy a stop at Glienicke Brige - the Bridge of Spies before continuing on to Berlin.
After breakfast, depart for the airport for your flight to the UK.
