Tipping is an expected element in China's tourism industry. Customarily every passenger pays on arrival to the guide and then it is distributed appropriately between the local guides and drivers. As a guideline we recommend 5- 7 USD per person per day.
Overall an excellent, informative tour which has left us with many stories to tell and memories to treasure. - Tour Guides: Our National Guide, Amy, was fantastic. She was very informative and was happy to share her experiences of her home country with us. Prior to the tour, we had heard that you could toboggan down the Great Wall, something which we wanted to have a go at but were worried would not be able to due to tour restrictions, Amy made arrangements for the group to have this option so we were able to fulfil our ambitions. She is a real asset to your company! The other "Local Guides" on the tour, particularly Annie in Shanghai, were very good as well. - Hotels: Accommodation was of a good standard, rooms were clean and comfortable with free WiFi and bottled water replenished on a daily basis - great for a full day out exploring. - Pace: The tour was quite fast paced, which was great for us as we wanted to see as much as we possibly could during our nine days in China, we definitely accomplished this! - Optional Excursions: We were unaware when we arrived in China that there were optional excursions available, there was no mention of these in our booking documents, hence we did not bring sufficient money and needed to withdraw extra whilst abroad. In future it would be useful to be made aware of any optional excursions in advance so that we can plan for them. Perhaps communication between Cosmos and the tour provider could be strengthened? - Food: It seemed that the included food was provided on a budget, with cheaper vegetable meals favoured and dishes often repeated. We only realised this on the last day when we returned to the previous night's restaurant, separately from the group, and had a much more varied meal with generous portions.
Could be improved. We were not met at the airport when we arrived and it required 3 phone calls to get someone there. Then as the tour went on lost confidence in the tour rep. She was abrasive and rude at times to some people. There were a lot of additional costs with extra events fitted in to the itinerary (not particularly good value) which made the original itinerary arduous. We also could have enjoyed some of the places visited a bit more if we had not had to rush to get the extras fitted in. Underwhelmed by the food and some of the places taken to eat. Had on occasion to speak with the rep, Amy, on behalf of the group to get her to think of us as customers, for example go back to the hotel and change after a long day before going out for the evening. Really enjoyed the sights, the Great Wall and Terracotta Warriors were fabulous and the two shows we went to were spectacular. I will be writing a more full report because I believe the trip experience can be greatly improved for others in the future. Regards Bill
