Fly to Boston where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. This evening, join your tour director for a welcome drink.
From Massachusetts, head north via New Hampshire's short shoreline and along Maine's rocky coast to Portland, one of New England's most famous cities. Stroll down the cobblestone streets of Portland's famous Old Port Exchange, lined with boutiques, coffee houses and art galleries. The next two nights are in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine's oldest summer resort. Dinner this evening is a typical lobster bake featuring Maine lobster, steamed mussels and delicious corn on the cob.
This morning visit picturesque Acadia National Park, where dramatic granite cliffs tumble down steeply forested slopes into the Atlantic Ocean. Take the scenic park road and enjoy the spectacular panorama from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the first place in the continental United States to see the sunrise. Enjoy a short carriage ride in Acadia National Park at the historic Jordan Pond house located inside the park.
After breakfast journey through Maine, passing sparkling lakes and lush forests to New Hampshire and the scenic White Mountains. Later, enjoy the Raven Wildlife Programme which offers an insight into the birds, animals and ecology of northern New England.
Travel through Franconia Notch. Cross the river into Vermont and visit Woodstock, its village green reminiscent of 19th century England. Next visit Billings Farm & Museum, a living museum about Vermont's rural past as well as a working dairy farm. Enjoy, a locally made ice cream cone during your visit.
Continue to Stockbridge in the Berkshire Mountains for a visit to the Norman Rockwell Studio & Museum, which houses a large collection of works by one of America's favourite artists. This evening enhoy a colonial style dinner at Salem Cross Inn. See the prime rib roasted to a turn as the only known authentic Roasting Jack still operating in America rotates slowly over a crackling fire, or stir the chowder as it bubbles in the cast-iron cauldron.
Start your day with a visit to Sturbridge Village, a 19th century living history museum where you can explore early New England in the company of farmers, craftsmen and fascinating characters. Next head south to explore Mystic Seaport, another living museum showcasing the many activities of a New England coastal village in the 1800s. Afterwards travel to Rhode Island, the 'Ocean State'.
The day begins with an orientation tour of Newport, including the first state house, the nation's oldest synagogue, and the city's oldest meeting house and library. Then explore the extravagant lifestyle of a bygone era when you visit The Breakers, Cornelius Vanderbilt's turn of the century mansion. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration before enjoying a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant, hosted by your tour director.
Depart for Boston this morning and enjoy a tour of the city's most prominent landmarks, including the historic sites near Boston Common, the Old State House, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and the Old North Church where Paul Revere got the signal to start his famous ride. You will also have the opportunity to browse through Quincy Market. Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your holiday with two nights in Boston.
