Today you have a full day of sightseeing to experience the delilghts of medieval Oporto. The city's main attractions, aside from the stunning Douro River and port wine houses, can be found in the Ribeiro district. These include the Gothic church of Igreja de Sao Francisco, the stunning Palacio da Bolsa and also the Caso do Infante or House of the Prince. You'll also get the chance to get close to the river on the promenade where you'll see the traditional boats (Barcos rabelos) which were once used to transport the famous port. Oporto Cathedral, set atop the hillside, is a magnificent 12th century fortress-like structure which overlooks the square and is well worth a visit. You'll have some free time to wander at your own pace before returning to your hotel.
Today you can relax and discover the region at your own pace or you can take the optional full day excursion for some wine tasting in the heart of Regua, Douro Valley.
You can either explore your surroundings, perhaps enjoying the beach, taking a leisurely lunch on the waterfront or alternatively take an optional half day tour of Bercelos. This walled medieval market town rests on a plateau above the River Cavado and is surrounded by stunningly beautiful scenery, a pleasant introduction to the region.
Viana do Castelo, a picturesque port with a fine square and mountaintop basilica, is where you start today's journey. Here you'll find an array of stunning churches including the Sé Cathedral of Viana do Castelo, built in the distinct Portuguese style. Next stop, and on the border with Spain is the ancient city of Valenca do Minho. Enjoy some time here before heading to your final stop, Caminha. A city full of significant historical buildings illustrating the transition from Gothic to Renaissance in Portugal, examples of which are the houses around the main square which is also home to its fountain built in 1551.
Today we travel in to North-West Spain for a breathtaking adventure into this fascinating site, the culmination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Soak up the atmosphere of this important religious and historical icon.
Today enjoy a full day tour exploring further, the beauty of northern Portugal. Your first stop is Ponte de Lima, so called because of the medieval bridge that crosses over the Lima river that runs alongside the town. Next it is on to Paneda Geres, the only National Park in Portugal which is home to many at risk flora and fauna which have disappeared from most other parts of the country; it is also home to endangered species such as the wolf and the Royal Eagle.
