Welcome to Chennai. This beautiful city on the Bay of Bengal, formerly known as Madras, has grown from a small fishing village into India's fourth largest metropolis. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Chennai that includes the Mylapore Walk. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner.

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Chennai that visits Kalakshetra and Dakshinachitra, a unique heritage centre for the living traditions of Indian arts, crafts, and architecture. Journey to Mahabalipuram, once the main port of the Pallava Kingdom and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. NOTE: Some sights are subject to days of operation.

Chennai - Kanchipuram - Pondicherry

Begin today with a visit to Kanchipuram. Showcasing more than a thousand temples, the Kanchipuram skyline features a stunning cluster of ornate towers that mark the temple entrances. The area is also famous for its silk industry, with weavers following designs that are hundreds of years old to make luxurious saris. Arrive in Puducherry late this afternoon.

Pondicherry

This morning, visit the Auroville, a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony regardless of creed, politics or nationality. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity. Continue to Pondicherry and visit the Pondicherry Museum, an excellent gallery with sculptures and has archaeological findings from the Arikamedu Roman settlement. Later, enjoy a 'Life of Pi' tour and heritage walk of the French quarters, and visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. One of the major highlights of Pondicherry, it is visited by thousands of people from all over the world. Evening at leisure.

Continue to Tanjore in Tamil Nadu through rich and varied countryside. En-route visit the temple towns of Swamimalai and the Darasuram Temple. The rest of the evening is at leisure.

Continue exploring Southern India on the way to Madurai via Chettinad. Visit Chettinad Village Market and enjoy a traditional meal served on banana leaf. Arrive in Madurai, one of southern India's oldest towns.

Board your houseboat for an overnight cruise on the backwaters of Kerala. As you drift along, enjoy authentic local food, watch the villagers go about their daily chores, and marvel at the beauty of the backwaters. Tonight, remain onboard your houseboat for a unique stay on Lake Vembanad. NOTE: Due to space restrictions, please plan to pack a small overnight bag for the houseboat stay.

Kerala Backwaters Cruise - Kochi
