A full day to explore this power base of American politics and capital city. Climb the steps of the classical Lincoln Memorial to see the large seated-sculpture of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, and read the inscription of his famous ‘Gettysburg Address’. Head along the National Mall for photo stops at Capitol Hill and the iconic White House. Study the white headstones of America's fallen heroes at Arlington Cemetery – here too is the sombre, yet moving, shrine of President John F Kennedy. Your afternoon is free to explore the interesting Smithsonian museums which flank the National Mall.
Today, continue to Philadelphia, the birthplace of American Independence and now the USA's fourth largest city. Visit the legendary Liberty Bell and Independence Hall; and don’t forget to sample an authentic Philly Cheese Steak whilst in the city.
Travel north into Boston - one of America's oldest and most attractive cities, where cobblestone streets and historic sites are nestled among world-class restaurants, shops and cafes.
Spend the morning exploring this engrossing city, founded by the Puritan settlers from England in 1630. Your guided tour takes you to the city’s key historic sites: Boston Common, the Old State House; Faneuil Hall; Old North Church; and the Freedom Trail, which tells the story of the nation’s founding. Enjoy a harbour cruise that includes the Bunker Hill Monument and the Boston Tea Party ship. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Leave Boston and head south to New York - the city in a class of its own. Your day is free to wander the broadways and avenues of this exciting destination. Take an express lift to the top of the Rockefeller Centre for unrivalled skyline views; and then a ferry ride trip to the old immigration port of Ellis Island, for a great photo opportunity to snap the Statue of Liberty. Take in a Broadway show in the evening.
This morning starts with a guided tour of the most famous sights in New York including Times Square, Greenwich Village, the Financial District and Chinatown. The rest of the day is free to explore more of New York at leisure. Enjoy a dazzling tour over the city by helicopter, walk the streets of Little Italy, or shop on famous Fifth Avenue. Your tour director will help with additional sightseeing plans and dining suggestions.
Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK or extend your stay in New York City.
