Fly to Keflavik, en route to your hotel, enjoy an included visit to visit the Blue Lagoon, a unique natural thermal spa where guests can relax in the warm, geothermal waters surrounded by remarkable lava fields and black sand beaches. The waters contain mineral salts that aid relaxation and relieve stress, while the white silica mud cleanses, tones and revitalises your skin. Later, continue to your Reykjavik hotel for four nights.
Today enjoy a full day tour of the 'Golden Circle', three of Iceland's most impressive sights. Visit Gullfoss, also known as the 'Golden Waterfall', a breathtaking cascade that plummets a mighty stream 32 metres into a canyon 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres wide. Also witness the intriguing steam plumes of Geysir. The namesake for all other hot springs, Geysir was once capable of spurting water 80 metres into the air. Set in a geothermal park peppered with bubbling mud pools, swirling steam vents and hot, meandering streams, Geysir is now a dormant sapphire-blue pool but nearby Strokkur still vents impressive steam pillars every 5-10 minutes. Finally admire the spectacular scenery of Thingvellir National Park, set on the rift valley created by the shifting continental plates of Europe and North America. The park is also home to the oldest existing Parliament site in the world.
The world's northernmost capital, Reykjavik, is set on a peninsula and overlooked by Mount Esja. With crisp clean air and clear blue skies, Reykjavik is a fascinating fusion of history, culture, art and nature and a city of contrasts, with traditional painted houses and a charming provincial town character combined with a modern, vibrant metropolis. The city's name derives from its Viking founders and means 'smoky bay' after the steam rising from the city's hot springs. Enjoy plenty of free time to explore this distinctive capital. Be sure to visit Perlan: the city's hot water tanks and a unique attraction popular with tourists for its distinguished revolving restaurant and panoramic walkways, or head to Tjorn Lake, an area ideal for leisurely strolls.
