Fly to Rome where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel.
Today enjoy a guided visit of the 'Eternal City'. Rome is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and unique. Explore St. Peters square, redesigned between 1656-1667 so that the greatest number of people could receive the Pope's blessing, and visit the Roman Forum and the mighty Colosseum, both icons of Rome’s ancient imperial history.
This morning begin your journey to Montecatini, with a scenic drive through the beautiful scenery of Tuscany. Take a stop in Pisa visiting the the Square of Miracles, a concentration of architectural beauty with the cathedral, the baptistery and the famous leaning tower.
Enjoy a full day in Florence, including a guided walk of its city centre to take in sights such as the Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard, Piazza del Duomo and the cathedral with the Giotto Campanile. Admire the magnificent East Door of the Baptistery also known as the "Gate of Paradise" because of the story depicted on the precious bas-relief. Return to the quiet spa town of Montecatini in the late afternoon.
The highlight of your day is the excursion to the Cinque Terre. Begin your journey today by travelling to La Spezia in Italy's Liguria region. From there,, ride the train to Levanto and stop on the way to enjoy some of the spectacular Cinque Terre villages with their breathtaking views. Continue your journey to Genoa, birthplace of Christopher Columbus. The rest of the evening is at leisure.
Genoa is one of the most important trading cities in the Mediterranean, with a long seafaring tradition. During the guided city tour, you’ll learn more about the 17th century fortifications, the Lanterna - a symbol of Genoa, San Lorenzo cathedral, Christopher Columbus' childhood home and the Palace of the Doges. Later, travel north towards Lake Maggiore, and on the way, stop in Milan to visit the iconic gothic Duomo, located in the heart of the bustling city.
Today, some free time to get to know Lake Maggiore or enjoy an included excursion into Switzerland to Lake Lugano, nestled on the Swiss and Italian border. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the lake or take advantage of the many shops in the Lugano town centre.
Begin your journey across the Po River plains. En route to Venice, stop in Verona to see Juliet's Balcony and explore the rest of the historical centre, such as the Roman Arena, during your free time. Arrival in the Venice area in the late afternoon.
Begin your day in Venice with a canal boat ride to St Mark's Square. Later, why not take the opportunity to watch Venetian Glassblowers fashion delicate objects or an optional Gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour.
Say goodbye to the Veneto region and travel southwards across the Po Delta for a break in Ravenna, a city known for its Romanesque architecture and Byzantine mosaics. Then, continue Assisi for a guided visit to St Francis Basilica, a medieval jewel. Carry on to Perugia, capital of Umbria, for an overnight stay.
Travelling south, stop at one of the most amazing Roman archaeological sites to get an insight into ordinary life during the Roman Empire, Pompeii. With a local expert, witness the remains of luxurious villas, temples, theatres and forums destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Later in the day travel to Sorrento, a picturesque seaside resort set on a plateau above the waters of the Bay of Naples. Why not wander the winding streets lined with shops and stalls or enjoy a glass of wine and absorb the easy going life of this charming town.
Take a boat to the island of Capri, famous for rocky coastline and awe-inspiring caves formed by crashing waves. Explore the maze of streets, fashionable boutiques and restaurants at your own pace, or take an optional sightseeing tour of the island, including all its best known features, before returning to Sorrento.
After breakfast, enjoy time at leisure to explore further the wonders of Sorrento or enjoy an optional visit to Positano. Later begin your journey north for an afternoon arrival in Rome. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
