Depart Las Vegas for one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Grand Canyon National Park. Travel across the old Mojave gold-strike country, passing through Williams on historic Route 66 and Kaibab National Forest. Arrive at the Grand Canyon by mid-afternoon and marvel at the breathtaking views. Accommodations will be inside the National Park.
The sunrise over the Grand Canyon is just as impressive as the sunset is. Later today visit Navajo National Monument. Visit villages built by prehistoric Ancestral Puebloans that date from 1250 to 1300 AD. See original architectural elements such as roof beams, masonry walls and rock art. Continue across Arizona and into the Navajo Nation. This evening, perhaps join the optional Navajo cookout for dinner and Navajo entertainment, surrounded by the red-rock canyons of Monument Valley.
Situated on the border between Arizona and Utah, Monument Valley’s scenic desert vistas and iconic buttes have appeared in countless classic Western films. See the massive formations on a memorable 4-wheel-drive tour escorted by a Navajo guide that will show you some of the valley’s most incredible scenery and share with you local legends and lore. Afterwards, head north for Moab, located between the red rock canyons of Arches National Park, the incredible sandstone landscapes of Canyonlands National Park. The day ends with a visit to magnificent Arches National Park to discover a landscape of contrasting colours, landforms and textures unlike any other in the world.
This morning,continue to Grand Junction and visit Colorado National Monument. Towering monoliths exist within this vast plateau and canyon panorama. Experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive. Continue east across the Rocky Mountains to the “Mile High City” of Denver.
Today, travel across the windswept landscape of Wyoming and into the Black Hills of South Dakota. At Custer State, enjoy a scenic drive along Wildlife Loop Road with spectacular terrain and an abundance of wildlife, like the herd of 1,300 bison that roam freely throughout the park. The next two nights are in Custer, in the heart of the Black Hills National Forest and gateway to Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore Memorials.
This morning, visit Mount Rushmore National Memorial, which stands as a shrine of democracy. See the stunning granite faces of Mount Rushmore, of four great American Presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Then, visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, a monument carved out of a mountain of the great Native American hero, Chief Crazy Horse. Learn about the sculpture, his family and the future of the project. Late afternoon return to Custer.
This morning, head through high country, where open-range cattle kings made war on the homesteaders in the 1890s. ENjoy a photo stop at Devils Tower National Monument, established as America’s first national monument by Teddy Roosevelt in 1906. This spectacular rock formation, the fossilised core of a volcano. and the surrounding countryside are home to a myriad of plant, animal life and Native Americans consider the area a place for renewal. Overnight in Buffalo Bill’s Western town of Cody.
Enjoy a morning at leisure, perhaps visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, which celebrates the spirit of the American West by sharing stories of the Western experience or enjoy a stroll down Cody's main street with it's unique shops and restaurants. Make sure to visit the historic Irma Hotel for a drink in the saloon. Overnight in West Yellowstone the gateway to Yellowstone National Park.
Spend the day exploring all the wonders of Yellowstone, established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. See the world-famous Old Faithful Geyser, Mammoth Hot Springs, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Fountain Paint Pots. Keep a lookout for some of the park’s wildlife.
Head south into magnificent Grand Teton National Park, one of America’s last preserves of wild solitude. Its 13,770-foot-high ridges are crested with snow most of the year. Stroll along the shores of beautiful glacier-fed Jenny Lake before ending the day in the Wild West town of Jackson with its wooden sidewalks and swing-door saloons. This evening, why not join an optional barbecue cookout and Wild West show?
Today, travel to Salt Lake City, Utah’s vibrant capital. Set on the edge of the Great Salt Lake Desert, this centre of the Mormon religion is where Brigham Young declared to his followers, “This is the place.” An included orientation tour offers a glimpse of Temple Square, the Capitol Building and the beautiful downtown area.
Today’s highlight is a visit to unique Bryce Canyon National Park with it's 20 miles of sandstone cliffs and ever-changing colours. See some of Planet Earth’s most brilliant shades of rock, sculpted by nature into pillars called “hoodoos.”
First stop today is Zion National Park with its landscape carved over millions of years by rushing streams. Steep canyons, stone towers, and verdant vegetation form the scenery of Zion. See fantastic rock structures and some unbelievable scenic beauty. Later, continue to Las Vegas for an overnight in the heart of the famous Las Vegas “Strip.”
