Some real treats are on the agenda today. Experience one of the most spectacular train rides crossing dramatic mountain scenery on the Flåmsbana Railway. After that, more breath-taking scenery as we board the boat cruising the Sognefjord, extending 240 km inland and containing some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in Norway. It has been nominated “the world’s most iconic destination”.

Continuing to Lillehammer, discover the winter sport resort that hosted the Olympics in the past and that now is home to a lively arts scene with a vibrant community of local artists who draw their inspiration from nature surrounding them.

Day 10

Lillehammer - Hamar - Oslo

The lively city of Hamar is located on the east shores of Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake. Most of Mjøsa's shores are dominated by rolling agricultural areas, among them some of the most fertile grainlands in Norway. Out on a headland called Domkirkeodden, jutting out into Mjøsa, lie the ruins of the 950-year-old Hamar Cathedral. An impressive steel and glass cover was erected in 1998 to protect the ruins of the cathedral, and the protective building is the largest glass construction in Europe, with a ground area of 2,600 square metres. The ruins are a part of Hedmarksmuseet which gives an insight in the history of the Viking era, the Middle Ages up to the present time. From Hamar, continue to Oslo, where you will get to see the main highlights of the city with a local guide. Oslo is one of Europe’s fastest-growing cities, with a population approaching 700,000 and new neighbourhoods with eye-catching architecture popping up almost by the minute. The largest city in Norway is quickly transforming into a cosmopolitan hub with an abundance of world-class museums, restaurants, and art, while still maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a much smaller town.
