Day 1

UK - Bucharest - Brasov

Fly to Bucharest, On arrival travel through Transylvania's Carpathian Mountains to Brasov to your hotel for the evening.

Day 2

Brasov - Fargas - Sighisoara

Begin today with an early morning orientation in Brasov. Next, travel to Bran castle renowned home of Vlad the Impaler and inspiration for the fictional vampire Dracula. Afterwards enjoy lunch before you continue your journey to the 13th century Rasnov hilltop fortress, calling at the mountain ski resort of Poiana Brasov. Later, visit the Transylvanian town of Sibiu with a break in the journey to Fagaras to admire its moat-ringed 14th century fortress and visit a Lipizzaner stud farm. Once in Sibiu visit the Astra Folk Museum and enjoy a lunch at a local tavern before heading to your destination of your hotel, Sighisoara.

Day 3

Sibiu - Alba - Blaj - Sighisoara

Take a day trip to Alba Iulia, one of Romania's oldest cities, set in verdant wine country. As you travel, hear how as the capital of the Walachia, Transylvania and Moldavia, Alba was where the unification of Transylvania and Romania was sealed in 1918. Head for 18th century star-shaped Alba Iulia Fortress and enjoy a guided tour of this stunning citadel, celebrated for its elaborate Baroque gates, cathedrals and palaces. Later, journey to the Blaj winery for a tour. Follow your explorations with a wine tasting and lunch before returning to Sibiu.

Day 4

Sibiu - Sighisoara - Targu Mures - Bistrita.

Leave Sibiu and travel through Romania's lush countryside to Medias. View the town's fortified church and then drive to Biertan, home to an even more impressive UNESCO-listed fortress-church. Admire the 15th century medieval stronghold which looms over the village in a huddle of 35 foot high walls, towers and gates. Next visit Sighisoara, a timeless citadel town where Vlad the Impaler was born in 1431. Enjoy a guided tour of this well-preserved gem to view its cobbled citadel, Church on the Hill and ornate Clock Tower. Continue to the historic town of Targu Mures for a Hungarian lunch and then travel to the Bistrita area.

Day 5

Bistrita - Voronet - Sucevita - Iasi

Today you will visit the painted Monasteries from Bucovina, part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, namely Moldovita and Voronet. The monastery is famous for its gold and deep blue paintings on the exterior walls, one of which is depicting the Tree of Jesus, representing Christ’s genealogy. Next you will visit the Voronet Monastery. Founded by Stephen the Great the Voronet Monastery is notorious as as "the Sistine Chapel of the East" due to its interior and exterior wall paintings. After having lunch in Gura Humorului you will continue the journey towards Iasi, the former capital of the Moldova Region, where you will enjoy a walking tour in its historic centre.

Day 6

Iasi - Tulcea area

Travel to Tulcea, dubbed the 'Gate to the Danube Delta', pausing the 17th century Agapia and 19th century Varatec monasteries, Targu Neamt fortress and a bison reserve en route. Arrive in the Tulcea area and experience the Danube's idyllic UNESCO-protected delta as you travel to your riverside hotel. This evening enjoy a fish dinner on the Danube Delta cruise.

Day 7

Tulcea area - Bucharest

Return to to Bucharest and on arrival, take a panoramic coach tour of this fascinating city, passing Revolution Square, elegant buildings and the cathedral before visiting the monolithic communist-built Parliament Palace, Europe's largest building. Your day concludes with a walking tour of Bucharest Old Town and dinner at the Caru' Cu Bere restaurant.

Bucharest - UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight back to the UK.
