This afternoon, cross by ferry to Rostock before continuing to the lively German capital, Berlin.
Berlin was once a city of contrasts but since the dividing wall came down, it has developed into a harmonious blend of old and new, preserving its old heritage buildings, as well as creating brand new buildings in the most modern architectural styles. Germany's capital is now culturally one of the most fascinating, lively and interesting cities in Europe. There's time to explore the city at your own pace, or perhaps join the optional sightseeing tour, before you journey to Poznan, the former capital of Poland.
Journey through the Polish countryside to Warsaw, the country's capital. Much of this beautiful city was destroyed during World War II, but has been lovingly restored to its former glory. The magnificent Royal Way is lined with an array of impressive churches, palaces, art galleries and museums. On the optional city sightseeing tour, discover the best of the city's historic landmarks, including a wealth of fine Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture.
Today, cross the border into Lithuania and continue to Vilnius, the country's UNESCO listed historic capital for two nights.
The cultural centre of Lithuania, Vilnius boasts many fine examples of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. See the main highlights on today’s guided city tour of the Old Town. This afternoon, you are free to explore the city at your own pace.
This morning, journey into Latvia for a visit to the Baroque Palace of Rundale, the former summer residence of the Duke of Courland. Built in the 18th century, the palace was designed by the great architect Rastrelli, who also designed the Winter Palace in St Petersburg. Later, travel amidst picturesque countryside to Riga, the Latvian capital, where you will spend two nights.
Formerly owned by Poland, Sweden, Russia and Germany, Riga is a diverse and beautiful city, strategically located at the head of the Gulf of Riga, an arm of the Baltic Sea. The Old Town is a kaleidoscope of architectural styles, where old houses and lofty church spires flank narrow cobblestone streets dotted amongst the riverbanks, parks and canals. The included sightseeing tour with a local guide introduces the city's best highlights.
Today, we journey along the Baltic coastline and cross the border into Estonia for a stop in the beautiful sea-side city of Parnu. Take a stroll down to the sandy beach, before continuing your journey to Tallinn.
Far older than the country of which it is the capital, Tallinn has many fine medieval buildings. The Old Town is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and contains fascinating sights such as the Hanseatic Merchant Houses, the mile-long town wall, the medieval Town Hall and the House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads, all included in your guided sightseeing tour of the city.
Depart Tallinn and head for the port for your ferry crossing to Helsinki.
A delightful city with parks, waterways and elegant neo-classical architecture, Helsinki has a small-town feel, its skyline devoid of high-rise buildings and its population little more than a million. Our included sightseeing tour with a local guide includes visits to the elegant Empire-style palace on Senate Square and the cathedral. After free time this afternoon, board your overnight ferry to the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
With a unique layout, Sweden's capital is a beautiful city spread across 14 islands between Lake Mäler and the Baltic. Today's included guided sightseeing tour includes takes in all the most famous landmarks including a visit to the City Hall.
