Fly to Hobart. Welcome to Tasmania, known to the locals simply as “Tassie!” Rooms are available for immediate check-in. This evening, join your travel group for a welcome briefing.
After breakfast, head to the Tasman Peninsula home to natural beauty and Australian history. Take a scenic LF CRUISE to see waterfalls, rock formations, archways, and deep-sea caves along with the highest vertical sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere. Keep your camera handy for the chance to spot whales, seals, dolphins, and more. Next, visit PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE for a guided tour to learn about the area’s early convict history and to see the 30 historic buildings, ruins, restored homes, and heritage gardens. Return to Hobart where an orientation highlights this charming city. The remainder of your day is at your leisure. Your Tour Director will have suggestions for additional sightseeing, shopping, and dining.

Depart Hobart and head east into the wilderness of Tasmania. A morning break takes us to MOUNT FIELD NATIONAL PARK where an easy walk through fern forests and some of the world’s tallest trees brings us to picturesque Russell Falls. Later, enjoy a stop at LAKE ST. CLAIR NATIONAL PARK where there’s time to see the exhibits at the Visitors Center and admire some of the park’s amazing scenery. Before arriving at your hotel, a photo stop is made at Ocean Beach, Tasmania’s longest and wildest beach which lies further south than the Cape of Good Hope. Spend the evening in Strahan known as “the most spectacularly beautiful harbor at the end of the world.”

This morning, soak up the serene beauty of Western Tasmania with a CRUISE on the Gordon River and into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Soak up the amazing views and keep your camera handy for some great photo opportunities. You’ll pass by Hells Gates, see Sarah Island and learn of its convict history, and cruise on the beautiful Gordon River. Later this afternoon, find yourself in CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, home to towering mountains, ancient rainforests, and abundant wildlife. Tonight, be treated to a LF PRESENTATION on the park by a local naturalist who will teach you about the park’s history and give you tips on spotting wallabies, wombats, pademelons, and more.

Today is spent exploring the beauty of Cradle Mountain National Park. Morning sightseeing includes a visit to the Ronny Creek Boardwalk. On this easy walk, take in the fresh air and scenic views. Keep your eyes open for wombats, the chubby little creatures who call this part of the park home. Then, travel to Dove Lake set beneath the towering spires of Cradle Mountain. There’s time to admire the scenery, snap photos, and for those that wish, take the walking trail around the lake for a full perspective (approximately 6 km/3.7 miles). This afternoon is yours to explore the park at leisure. There are many walking and hiking trails to explore, keep your eye out for wallabies, quolls, echidnas, and maybe even a platypus. You may also want to visit the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery dedicated to Tasmanian artists, or just relax at your hotel and take in the amazing environment. This evening enjoy a behind-the-scenes visit to the LF DEVILS@CRADLE, a unique sanctuary concentrating primarily on the Tasmanian devil. A specialist will discuss biology, behavior, threats, and the important work being done at the sanctuary. Then, you’ll get to see these extraordinary animals in action.

This morning, our first stop is in Sheffield, known as the Town of Murals. We then make a stop in Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city, with a visit to the scenic CATARACT GORGE. There’s time for a quick walk, a bite to eat, and a chance to take in the spectacular views. Afterward, stop at one of Tasmania’s famous cellar doors for a TASTING of some of the local wines. Spend the next two nights savoring breathtaking views of Waubs Bay on Tasmania’s east coast.

Today, experience one of Tasmania’s most extraordinary places, Wineglass Bay. Your CRUISE includes the history and sights of the Freycinet Peninsula and features amazing scenery and one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Keep your eyes out for wildlife including whales, seals, penguins, dolphins, and more. This cruise is sure to be a highlight of your time in Tasmania. Next, visit the CAPE TOURVILLE LIGHTHOUSE for amazing views of the coast below. Return to your hotel where the remainder of your day is at leisure. For those wanting a little exercise, take the Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk for one of Tasmania’s most celebrated views over the beautiful white sand beaches of Wineglass Bay. Please note that the walk is approximately 2 hours roundtrip, has a fairly steep climb, and some loose gravel. This evening, witness a once-in-a lifetime event on a LF PENGUIN TOUR. Every evening at dusk, the little penguins emerge from the sea and make the journey over land to their burrows. Here is your chance to see penguins up close. Please note that in order not to disturb the penguins, cameras are not permitted on the tour.

Return to Hobart, the capital and most populated city in Tasmania. This afternoon enjoy some time at leisure to explore on your own. You may want to visit the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), shop for a favorite souvenir, or travel to the top of Mount Wellington for fantastic views of the city and harbor below. Tonight, join your Tour Director and traveling companions for a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
